French international oil company Total has launched the second phase development of the offshore Ofon field in Nigeria (Ofon Phase 2). The Ofon field is located in oil mining lease (OML) 102, 65km off the Nigerian shores in a water depth of 40m.

Ofon Phase 2, which is scheduled to come on stream in 2014, will unlock the field’s undeveloped reserves to increase production to 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from 30,000 barrels, by installing four new platforms.

Total said most of the development is dedicated to recovering natural gas, which will be compressed and evacuated to shore.

Total Exploration-Production Nigeria operates OML 102 with a 40% interest, while Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation holds the remaining 60% stake.
