Singapore’s Keppel Kazakhstan and its consortium partner, Ersai Caspian Contractor have won a $242 million jackup rig contract from Teniz Burgylau, Keppel Offshore & Marine (O&M) said in a statement Tuesday.
Teniz Burgylau is a unit of KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan’s state-owned oil and gas company.
The KFELS B jackup rig is slated for delivery in 1Q 2015 and will be deployed in the Caspian Sea when it is completed. The rig is able to operate in water depths of up to 262 feet, upgradeable to 400 feet and can drill to depths of up to 20,000 feet.
Keppel Kazakhstan and Ersai Caspian Contractor will split the work equally on the rig.
“With Kazakhstan’s vast oil and gas reserves, our yard in Kazakhstan, which has been operating in Aktau since 2003, stands ready to support the country as it unlocks and realises its production potential,” Keppel O&M’s COO Chow Yew Yuen said.
Keppel Kazakhstan was founded in 2003 to service the oil majors operating in Kazakhstan. The yard’s activities include the design, construction, conversion and repair of offshore modules, structures and drilling units, as well as specialized vessels such as tugs and supply boats.
