Swiss power and automation technology giant ABB has won a cable order worth around $25 million from Statoil in the Norwegian North Sea.

The company will supply AC subsea power cables to the world’s largest offshore gas platform, Troll A, about 70 kilometres off the west coast of Norway.

ABB said in a statement on Tuesday confirming the contract that its scope of supply would include 69 kilometres of 3-core cable with integrated fiber optics, accessories and joints.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2014.

The company won a $270 million order in October last year to supply and install compressor drive systems, HVDC converters and DC cables for the same platform.

Peter Leupp, head of  ABB’s Power Systems division, said the oil and gas industry was providing increased business for the company, which also installs AC and DC submarine cables for offshore wind farm connections and cross border interconnectors.

ABB is a leader in power and automation technology provision to utility and industry clients, with operations in around 100 countries and a staff of about 130,000 people.
