Wood Group has won a new five-year global contract with Shell to provide engineering and construction management services. No value has been given as to the size of the Enterprise Frame Agreement (EFA) – awarded to subsidiary Wood Group Kenny – which includes a further five-year extension option.

Wood Group Kenny described the multi-million pound contract as “a very important agreement” which will lead to new jobs being created at its base in Aberdeen, which currently employs around 500 people, as well as at other sites globally.

The focus of the agreement will primarily be in the Asia Pacific region and a number of projects across Europe.

Steve Wayman, chief executive of Wood Group Kenny, said: “We believe that Shell’s achievements in the subsea industry are second to none, so this is a very important agreement for Wood Group Kenny as it will give us the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting and challenging projects in the world.”

Wood Group Kenny has already started work for Shell as part of the EFA, undertaking a front end engineering and design study for the high temperature, high pressure Linnorm project in Norway.

Work is also under way at the Prelude FLNG in Australia, the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas project.

In addition, Wood Group Kenny is supporting Shell on the Gumusut project in Malaysia, and will provide subsea and topsides support for the Subsea Well Response Project (SWRP), a multi-company initiative focusing on worldwide subsea well control incident intervention currently under way in the North Sea.

The SWRP is a collaborative project involving nine major oil and gas companies who are working together to improve the safety of offshore exploration.
