Shell/BP Consider Sale of Sapref Refinery Stake

Shell RefineryShell and BP are considering asking South Africa to buy a stake in their jointly owned Sapref refinery. The two oil majors will be meeting with South Africa’s energy minister in late-February and a BP official said that the topic may be discussed.

“It’s true that it is one of the proposals on the table,” Joe Mahlo, BP’s South African spokesman was quoted as saying by Bloomberg however, he declined to say what the other items on the agenda at the meeting would be.

Sapref is currently South Africa’s largest refinery with a processing capacity of 180,000 bpd.
