Saipem wins contract for Aje field offshore Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria | –  Italian oil and gas industry contractor Saipem has won a contract for its Scarabeo 3 semi-submersible rig to work on Nigeria’s Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum’s Aje shallow-water oilfield offshore Nigeria. The rig will drill one new well and complete another, which will then be tied in to a floating production, storage and offloading unit.

Aje field straddles water depths from 100 to 1,000 metres located in the Dahomey basin, nearly 24 kilometres offshore.

First production from the field is scheduled to begin at the end of 2015 and produce nearly 10,000 barrels of oil per day. The existing Aje-4 and new Aje-5 wells will be tied back via a subsea manifold to Rubicon Offshore’s Front Puffin floating, production, storage and offloading vessel.

The new well is being drilled at the Aje-2 location, which demonstrated a productivity of 3,700 barrels per day of 41-degree API oil during tests performed in 1997. Well operations are set to finish by the end of 2015.
