Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has removed the management of the state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, or NNPC, and approved the appointment of a new group managing director for the corporation.

Andrew Yakubu, a former managing director of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company and Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production) is the new Group Managing Director of the NNPC, a statement from Jonathan’s office said Tuesday.

The statement said the changes were made “to further strengthen reforms and transformation of Nigeria’s petroleum sector in furtherance of efforts to achieve greater transparency and accountability in government.”
