Danish industrial conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk said Tuesday its Maersk Supply Service unit has been awarded three large tug boat services contracts by Brazil’s Petroleo Brasileiro, or Petrobras.

The three contracts, each with duration of four years, have a total value of DKK1.6 billion, or $285 million.

Specifically, three Maersk Supply Service vessels–Maersk Leader, Maersk Lancer and Maersk Launcher–will provide ultra-deep water anchor-handling services to Petrobras, Brazil’s state-owned oil company.

“Brazil is a strategically important growth market for Maersk Supply Service, and these contracts reinforce our strong relationship with one of the industry leaders in deep water exploration and production,” said Maersk Supply Services Chief Executive Carsten Plougmann Andersen

The company currently has 11 vessels operating offshore Brazil for Petrobras, and five vessels for international oil companies.

The new contracts will take effect from December 2012, Maersk said.
