India’s Essar Oil plans to shut its 280,000 barrels per day (bpd) Vadinar refinery inGujaratfrom Sept. 18 for 35 days for a revamp and upgrade, two sources familiar with the plan said on Monday.

The planned shutdown is aimed at raising capacity to 360,000 bpd and increasing the complexity of the plant to process more ultra heavy and heavy crude and to produce Euro V-compliant fuel for exports.

The private-sector refiner also plans to carry out routine maintenance work during the shutdown besides hooking up new units and revamping some of the existing ones like the fluid catalytic cracker and crude unit, one source said.

No immediate comment was available from the company.
