Centrica_plcCentrica shut down its South Morecambe gas field on Thursday for planned maintenance, a spokesman for Britain’s biggest energy supplier said.

“It’s down for maintenance now as of 6am this morning,” the spokesman for Centrica, which owns the British Gas energy brand, said on Thursday. Centrica said on May 1 the South Morecambe field would shut in May and might not be restarted after the work ends if UK gas prices are not high enough to make up for higher taxes announced in March.
