BP has planned to expand its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) production capacity at the BP Zhuhai Chemical Company Limited (BP Zhuhai) site in Guangdong Province, China.

The British oil company also said that it is planning to construct a new PTA plant at the same site.

BP aims to expand the annual capacity of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) at its existing plant in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, by 200,000 tons to about 1.7 million tons.

BP has completed the engineering design work for the plant and expects the expansion to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2012.

BP also plans to construct a new third PTA plant in Zhuhai that will have a capacity of 1,250,000 tonnes per year.

The new plant is expected to be on stream by 2014.
