The senior BP PLC executive accused of taking cash payments in return for giving sweetened tanker chartering terms has been suspended pending the outcome of an inquiry, the Daily Telegraph reports Monday.
According to the paper, the executive in BP’s shipping division has been put on leave of absence while an investigation completes its work. The probe was undertaken after Chief Executive Bob Dudley received a letter, purportedly from an anonymous whistle blower, detailing the allegations.
BP confirmed it had received an anonymous letter last month in which certain allegations were made.
“BP conducts its business to the highest ethical standards. We take all allegations of this sort extremely seriously and always investigate them,” said a BP spokesman.
However, he declined to say whether the employee concerned had been suspended.
“We do not comment on personnel issues,” said the spokesman.
